The Philosophy of Love
June 29th Leicester
& July 6th Melton Mowbray

Eros - Agape - Philia - Storge - Mania
Ludus - Pragma - Philautia

What kind of Love is that? The Greeks understood the complexity and variety of love and had at least eight terms for different kinds of love. From Eros the romantic love, to Storge the unconditional family love, to Agape  the empathetic universal love, we present a programme of music focusing on these different types of love from ancient music to more recent times. A varied programme which will get you thinking in new ways about the myriad ways to love..

Making Music
Beyond the Notes

For over thirty years, this accomplished chamber choir of around twenty singers has been offering outstanding concerts which both inspire and delight audiences.

The ensemble has given a number of world premieres, including the first performance of the Jazz trio version of Will Todd’s Mass in Blue.

The choir is equally at home with smaller scale works, such as the Bach Motets, the masses of Byrd, Willaert and Palestrina, as with more substantial works including the St John Passion, Handel’s Dixit Dominus and Pärt’s Berliner Mass.

Yet very often you'll find yourself introduced to music you had never experienced before, as the choir takes pleasure in showcasing new talented composers.

Whether you favour serious historical retrospectives, or you prefer its popular lighter programmes, Kingfisher Chorale will leave you feeling enlightened and stimulated.

The hallmark of Kingfisher Chorale is an exquisite attention to detail, subtle nuance of expression, and a richness of tone which bring to life repertoire, spanning over five centuries, from Renaissance, through to contemporary 20th and 21st century.  Both sacred and secular music shine in inspiring and often surprising programming!

We invite you to take a breath of fresh air and step beyond the ordinary with us.

"I loved the brilliant solo singing, gorgeous voices soaring out of the sumptuous texture."

"Thank  you  to  you all  for  a  truly  special  concert.
The  singing  tone  was  really  beautiful

GUILDHALL CHRISTMAS CONCERT
'Welcome Yule'

O magnum mysterium. Kingfisher Chorale have once again produced a stupendous Christmas offering, a series of wonderful musical and aberrant experiences in the Leicester Guildhall.

Beautifully executed and sublimely moving, rejoicing, sweet and invigorating.

Blessed are those who lift up their hearts and voices in celebration of this most wonderful time in the Christian calendar.

I love it!  Highly recommended.

THE MISSING MASTER

In 2013 we performed a landmark concert celebrating Adrian Willaert 'The Missing Master' in Leicester's magnificent St James the Greater.

Willaert, the first of the great Venetian composers, left a legacy which inspired masters such as Monteverdi and the Gabrielis.

Here, Giles Turner discusses the great significance of this forgotten genius and his contribution to renaissance music.

AN EXTRAVAGANZA OF BAROQUE MUSIC FROM LATIN AMERICA

In April 2024, we performed a landmark concert showcasing the dynamic cultural exchange that occurred during the Spanish conquest of the Americas.  Partnering once again with the noted early music ensemble, The Musical & Amicable Society, we brought the rarely heard music of Padilla, Araujo, Salazar and others to life.
