Extraordinary music deserves to be heard
Britain has one of the richest choral traditions in the world, yet much of its extraordinary repertoire is rarely heard in live performance.
Kingfisher Chorale deliberately looks beyond the small body of familiar works that dominate so much choral programming. We seek out ambitious and beautiful music that deserves to be heard, from Renaissance polyphony to rarely performed works of later centuries.
Founded in 1992, Kingfishers is a chamber choir of around twenty experienced singers with a long-established place in Leicester’s musical life. Our small scale is part of our strength, allowing us to perform demanding repertoire with clarity, flexibility and intimacy.
Where the music calls for it, we work with professional instrumentalists and specialist period players to create performances that bring this music fully to life.
An established audience, and potential to reach further
For more than 30 years, Leicester Guildhall has hired Kingfisher Chorale for its Christmas concerts. The Guildhall fills, audiences return, and we continue to be invited back year after year.
Our 2024 performance of Ay Andar! showed what is possible when an ambitious musical idea has the resources behind it. Combining rarely heard Latin American Baroque music, professional period instrumentalists and greater promotion, it attracted an audience of more than 130 — compared with around 50 for a typical predominantly a cappella concert with minimal publicity.

Sponsorship allows us to be ambitious about our programmes and our audience.
It helps fund professional instrumentalists and specialist players where the repertoire requires them, as well as venues, performance materials, concert production, design, printing, publicity and audience development.
